Did you know, Barnenez dates back further than the Great Pyramids of Egypt?
In the remote and rugged terrain of Brittany, France, sits a little-known Neolithic marvel – Barnenez.
Literally translating to ‘the mound of the peninsula’, this 6,000-year-old monument is one of the world’s oldest man-made structures.
Over twice as old as the Great Pyramids and pre-dating Stonehenge by at least a millennium, Barnenez comes from an era of history that is cloaked in mystery.
It is an architectural wonder that was constructed out of over 13,000 tonnes of stone, arranged into eleven separate burial chambers.
Originally discovered by accident in 1955, archaeologists tirelessly refurbished the monument over two decades to painstakingly reveal its original grandeur.
Far from the well-trodden tourist trails, Barnenez remains a silent testimony to France’s earliest inhabitants and stands as a window into an often-overlooked chapter of human history. .
